Day in Cozumel

The final port of my recent cruise was the island of Cozumel, Mexico. Both this island and the mainland have many activities to choose from, such as snorkeling on beautiful beaches, off-road adventures and zip-lining through the jungle. The last time I visited Cozumel was about ten years ago and I went to the mainland, but this time I just stayed on Cozumel Island. However, I still had a great experience on the island where I spent most of the day at a place called Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park.

This park has a large scenic garden, dolphin encounters, a sea lion show, and a beautiful beach and snorkeling area. The only experience not included with the price of admission is the dolphin encounter, but food, drinks and all of the other activities are included.

My trip to this park was an excursion booked through my cruise line and it only cost about $65 per person for my specific sailing (prices may vary by date). Regardless of the date, the pricing will probably remain in the same range between $60-$95 per person, which is still a great deal for everything that is included.

I spent most of my time here at the "beach," which is really just a large area with sand and lounge chairs that have a few staircases to access the sea. The crystal clear water here is full of tropical fish and coral species. There is snorkeling gear available for guests, but I brought my own goggles from home and went swimming with those. I have always been fascinated by the ocean and the life within it so this experience was not new to me, but it was still very much enjoyable. Swimming with all of the beautiful fish in a natural environment is something that I'll always love. Scuba diving is still one thing I have yet to experience, but I'm hoping that it will be crossed off my bucket list soon!

Swimming in Cozumel, Mexico

You can see here just how close some of the fish will get to you when swimming in these waters. They weren't afraid of approaching people. This made it a very relaxing experience and it also enabled me to capture some great photos and videos.

You can watch a video that includes footage from my trip to both Costa Maya and Cozumel (but primarily takes place under water) by clicking here.

When I wasn't in the water, I was walking around the garden that was full of tropical plants and even some animals that are native to the region. This was a nice and relaxing experience because there were very few people in the area and most outside noise was blocked, so it felt like a very natural setting. There were also some Mayan ruins scattered throughout the gardens, most of which have been brought in from elsewhere, but they were still amazing in this particular setting.

Chankanaab Gardens

Overall, I had a great experience at this park and I would recommend this excursion to anyone visiting Cozumel, Island. I plan on going back to Cozumel later this year and I definitely see myself booking this excursion again because it is affordable and I had a great time!
